-:9th April 2011:- When staying with our lovely hosts in Ohio for Thanksgiving, amongst the shelves of inspiring books, I also found a pile of vintage flip books upon my bedside table. Dancers in full skirts, acrobats in harlequin outfits and I was reminded of the fascination of creating little stick-figure flip books as a child. Desipte their vintage look, there was discrete website address on the back: www.opticaltoys.com. The company is based in Vermont and has an impressive array of vintage optical toys. The site is creatively animated, suggestive of the whimsy of what they sell: Little pop up gardens, hand shadow cards, a phenakistascope (the earliest movie toy from the 1930s)…
